I'm new here
Hi everyone. I'm an alcoholic and I desperately want to quit drinking. I've been abusing alcohol for about 10 years. I'm a busy single mom. I've tried quitting on my own and with AA. Neither worked and I am glad I found this place. I know I can't do this on my own, so I am here. I drank last night, so this is my first day of sobriety.
"Neither worked."
Well in the end we all quit on our own - but indeed a few like-minded people can make the task more manageable. Welcome to the forums and to Day One. Grab a cup of tea and your slippers and dive into reading and posting.

Hi Halvso and welcome! I washed up on the shores of SR after twenty years of alcohol addiction, having tried other methods without success. SR folks kindly guided me towards my new life: contentment at being alcohol free.
Your past failures are not a predictor and you absolutely CAN succeed NOW, by reading around SR and posting. There are myriad ways, stances, methods and techniques and it’s 100% possible to put alcohol abuse in your rear-view mirror, as part of your history, forever.

Welcome, Halvso. This is a wonderful place for help, advice and support from people who really do understand. SR has been a huge part of my getting and staying sober. Hang around, keep posting, read, and perhaps join the Class of May. I am very glad you're here and good job on one day-the first days are the hardest.
It's great to have you join us, Halvso. I felt all alone with the struggle until I came here. Everyone understood what I was going through - I knew I never had to feel alone anymore. Welcome!

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging welcome. Day 2 has gone pretty well. It's so nice to not have a hangover! The last hour, I have been wanting to drink...it's that time of day. So I had something to eat and checked in here. I'm not going to drink. So thankful for this sight🌞
