3 Day's Sober and 3 Day into Keto

I decided to try keto with my Mom (who lives 1200 miles away) so this is basically an honor system kind of pact.

I haven't had a beer since Wednesday night. I have drink about 12 - 16 oz coors banquet a night for the last 2 years. I've been trying to get sober for about a year.

One of the caveats of keto is keeping to less than 20g of net carbs per day. There is NO room for beer in that. I've made it a whole 3 whole days! I almost broke today, between and 6pm and 8pm it was really rough. I was rationing with myself that I could try vodka (0 carbs) and soda water even though I really don't like hard liquor, but I made it through that. 3 days ago I would have run out and bought vodka.

Today I am proud of me, I hope I can say the same thing tomorrow.

Welcome back Kage - hope you can make this approach work for you and keep it going beyond the pact

ps don't 'hope' - you're in control = make it so

Oddly enough I’m in exactly the same place as you. Quit drinking a few months ago. Started a whole new routine. Eat well. 5 days a week at the gym. 45 minutes walk every night. Stopped watching tv and started listeneing to educational podcasts. Basically while dale changes. Had a couple slips but my. Ew routine kept me coming back to sobriety. Day 5 of Keto for me. I only ever drank beer. 12 molson Canadian a night. Now when I get the urge I have another thing I don’t want to lose. Weird but adding layers to discipline allows me to live free of alcohol. Like layers of armour and when AV pierces one or two now I have 4 or 5.

I deifnitely agree, not wanting to fall out of ketosis is what I'm holding onto right now. I went for two long walks today to distract myself. I have a gym membership and I think I might start hitting it in the late afternoon when my mind starts to shift into "drinking time". Thanks for your comment, I find it inspiring!

.

Congrats on your strong start Kage .

I have 100% confidence you can avoid bringing booze to your mouth tomorrow ,..if that's the choice you decide to make .

It looks like 12 x 16 oz = 192 oz ( 1.5 gallons ) multiplied by 365 days = 547.5 gallons per year .

Have you ever thought about quitting before ?

..... using a dietary intervention as motivation is interesting . What happens in a month or ,...say ,...a year ? ...if you alter your diet away from strict Keto ,...will your mind justify a dozen beers ,.. ?

I had to approach quitting without any conditions ( or contingencies ,if you will ) The idea of " not drinking ,..no matter what "

Actually ,... more specifically " not drinking ,..if my *ss falls off "
...which pretty well covered every contingency .

My addiction to alcohol was pretty creative to find any loophole . Like " vodka " has 0 carbs,..for instance .

Long term sobriety is more the ultimate ultra marathon ,...

Welcome to SR ,...this place helped me through some rough spots during my first 3 or 4 months .
