Hi Laura3 - I hope you stick around a while and find sobriety. This is an amazing place!

If you put as much effort into believing you can succeed as you've put into believing you will fail, you will overcome this.

My biggest obstacle is what drinking has done to my mind.

I'm glad you're not giving up Lara - that's huge! You mentioned in your first post that you didn't seem to have any withdrawals. You made it some into Day 2. What do you think you could have done or should have done differently?

Hang in there Laura. Good for you for coming back.

I can't do this alone. I didn't realize how much drinking has affected me

You aren't alone. Have you considered AA, being with other folks who would give you f2f support?

Yes I'm going to have to do that. I live alone so it's easy to just shut myself in and drink. I've isolated myself from people.

I get that Laura. Although I don't live alone, I isolated myself from other activities. I stopped doing things and/or participating just so I could drink. I didn't even read. I just sat there and drank. It was wonderful to be free enough to do anything but drink.

Welcome to SR Laura

My drinking was very isolated, I never socialised and lived alone. Alcoholism is a master of having you all to itself. I only did 1 session at AA so cant give any advice on that but i highly recommend breaking habits and routines. Many I associated with booze over the years. Different routes home from work, exercise, new hobbies....and posting here etc!

We do have choices to make...with alcoholism (i'm only assuming you have it) succeeding and failing isn't part of recovery. Relapse is a hallmark trait of recovery. It's a deadly illness like so many others. Recovery happens in fits and starts. Best to you.

Laura, I'm glad you're back and posting. I think motivation is the key and it sounds like you're ready to do this. You will always find support here at SR.

Wiscsober I didn't think I had a drinking problem. I barely drank for years but I used drugs . I replaced drug addiction with alcoholism

Welcome to the boards. I came here when I realized I couldnt do it alone. Eventually I was able to get up the courage to get real help (offline) but I still hang around here for extra support.

It doesn't have to be this way Laura. It is so liberating to just realize you can leave or do things, even if you choose to stay home. Just to not have the ball and chain around your ankle is the best!

Welcome Laura, you'll find lots of support on SR. Is it possible to head to the Ear to help you detox rather than waiting for your doctor?
