Day 13
Today.
The most important thing I have learnt from this site is just don't drink. Don't pick up that first drink, the anxious situation you are in, the cravings, it all passes. Just don't drink. On the train yesterday evening on the way up to London I was convinced I was going to drink. My AV was having a field day. "You deserve it" "just have a couple" "just for tonight and back to sobriety tomorrow"
I was out for dinner last night and there came a point when I tempted to have a glass of red with my steak. But I hated the thought of doing day 1 again. I knew I'd feel guilty and terrible this morning if I'd have drunk last night. As it happens I didn't drink and this morning I feel grateful and proud. Day by day life without alcohol is getting easier and easier and also better. I feel reinvigorated.

Excellent. Yes, the AV is a devious bastard. Some time ago I saw an acronym - HALT. Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. I've used that at times to check myself when the AV speaks up. If I'm hungry I eat. If I'm angry I vent. If I'm lonely I find someone to talk to. If I'm tired I sleep.
10 times out of 10 the AV goes away in short order.

Same with sugar lows. So I avoid sugary food and drink as when you get those lows it makes me crave a drink.
