I'm a mess again

I'm a total mess again. I've been drinking everyday now for about 4 months. I want to stop and go cold turkey but I know that inst advisable. I actually tried it but was feeling seriously unwell. I try to cut down but once I get that buzz I need more.

My dad phoned up some rehabs for short detoxes. All of them seem to be either very expensive or only 4 week stays, I mean seriously how messed up is that. It's F*****d up that you can't pay $200-300 a night for 5 nights to get clean.

iam also coming off a 4 month daily binge.

But I vowed to myself to get through the early days without being a slave to a substance which is only gonna make me feel even worse....I have no choice, I have to be sober. It's gotten pretty dark for me when I drink.

A good place to start would be seeing your GP.
Support to you.

I agree with PhoenixJ, your GP ought to be able to help you in regards to detoxing. I totally agree with you about cutting down or moderating not being an option for the addictive drinker.

Yeah, you may not need intpatient treatment. If you go to an Urgent Care or your regular doctor they may be able to prescribe a short course of inexpensive meds.

It's worth looking into.

Not nearly as messed up as the fact that you've been drinking every day for 4 months straight now, is it? ;-) And how much do you think you've spent on alcohol over those 4 months?

The suggestion to see urgent care or your GP are good ones. The salvation army offers free detox to those in need, something to check out if you cannot afford other options.

Scott's 100% correct..Rehab isn't a burger king where you can "have it your way",because let's face it..A 4 month 'binge' IS NOT a binge IMO...it's staying drunk for 4 months,so "your way isn't working" to begin with. You stayed drunk for 4mo,so besides financial, what's wrong with a 4wk program?

Oh DR, I can list about a thousand reasons what's wrong with a 4 wk program.
The first is that's WAY too short.
The second is, the 999 other things us addicts use as justifications

Been there, done that... a few hundred times.

Harry, GP is a great start- just be honest. If you really are done and want to commit, don't stop looking into ALL your options.
Write em out, how you feel about them, and what roadblocks you may have to getting to them and find solutions to that.
Start with the doc. Please read all the stickies around here- they really helped me. (recovery plan) and don't stop posting.

I can see that and should have added "initial" to the 4wk with aftercare...I'm also not trying to debate rehabs, recovery.

OP...I hope you get the help you need.

DR, Maybe I am being too tongue in cheek I don't know but there was no ill intent meant towards you

I did 6 week inpatient and was terrified to leave. It was way too long and waaaay too short. I knew I was only chipping away at the tip of the iceberg and it was a tough experience to say the least and left me feeling pretty raw.

Harry, you can do this and no one is going to judge you we will be here to support you.
