quitting at 30, 40 & 50...

When I hear people who quit by or before 30, I wonder why so early.

When I hear people who quit at or after 50, I wonder why so late.

When I hear people who quit by or before 40, that sounds about right.

I began trying to quit in my 40's. I had a decade of relapses, hence finally getting sober in my 50's.

I didn't quit till my 50's due to health problems. I never really ever tried to quit till then even tho I had plenty of reasons at 30 or 40. I always thought I would put it off till later. later finally came.

Ugh I hate this post. (joking!!) I've just started a thread looking for people who quit in their 20s. I don't even want to think how my life is gonna be if I keep drinking for another 20 years - yikes!

The first time I got sober I was in my mid thirties. Second time I was 58. I appreciate my sobriety more this time.

I quit a few weeks before 40. I wish I'd quit at 20 or30 and I doubt I'd be here at 50 if I hadn't.

I got sober at 31. In early sobriety, I went to a lot of young peoples' meetings. I met so many people who were the same age as me but had gotten sober before they could legally drink in the U.S. (age 21). Those were the people who amazed me and made me just a tad jealous

I never want to know what it's like quitting beyond 32. How badly I could have screwed up the best years of my life, that makes no sense to me.

I knew I needed to quit in my mid-twenties. I finally managed to quit at 41. Definitely some wasted moments in my past, but no sense sweating it at this point, right?

Though I drank a lot, alcohol did not appear to me to be a problem until about 8 or 9 years ago. Note, “appear to me.” My second wife hated my drinking. I noted the problem in around 2009. Cleaned up, but about 3 years ago it got out of control. Been struggling ever since. On Day 5 right now. I turn 50 in October.

I'm in my early thirties, and something about the way you phrased this really resonated with me! I don't want to find out either. Of course it can easily get so much worse.

I first started trying to quit about 8 years ago at age 35. Just shows how insidious this is. Doesn’t get any easier to quit as you age.

Well iam quitting at 27 because I get consumed with all the negatives in life.

Jealousy
Anger
Revenge
Low self worth
Paranoia
Over thinking
Lack of ambition
An ofcourse depression.

I'll literally turn into a homeless bum if I keep going.

I really don't get this post. Why is 30 too early??? Why is 50 too late??? Why is 40 just right? What the heck? Am I missing something here?

I wish I would have never started, which happened in my early teens. I think putting any conditions on quitting is a bad idea really. If drinking is a problem, right now is the best time to quit no matter your age.

I think it's a riff on Goldilocks and the three bears. It's called Daredevil and the 3 alcoholics......
