I'm Back
Hi everyone,
You may or may not remember me, but on November 20th I committed to 100 days of sobriety, with the goal of extending it for the rest of my life. I was scared about the commitment of a life without alcohol, as most people were.
I made it 111 days. I learned a lot during that time. Felt the best I have ever felt. But decided to drink on a vacation to Florida, since I "hit" my goal.
So here I am. Now on Day 1 for the 2nd time. I'm shooting again for 100 days. I need these types of "wins" to get better.
I haven't been drinking often or alone or anything like that, but I feel myself heading in that direction and my health is most important.
My anxiety and nerves are high after drinking the night before. I hate it and the OCD and regret that follows.
Thanks for reading.

Yeah, making a commitment is far easier than living with the possibility of drinking again.
You did the experiment of re-drinking, and it ended badly. Not sure why you wouldn't just stick with abstinence after that. (?)

You seem to be planning another round of quitting and screwing up again. I know I have done the same for years.
There's nothing in it for you or for me or anyone who is compelled to control their drinking.
Quitting for good is the only good thing to do.

you cant argue with these point RUL.
something else to consider...it was only at or around 90 days that I felt real change was starting to occur - you may be cheating yourself out of the next stage of recovery by only shooting for a hundred days.
I'm at the point now where every day sober is a win
why do you think it's hard for you to make a permanent commitment?
fear of change? stubbornly wanting to one day be a normal drinker?

You can do this! Life is short and alcohol makes the little time we have left miserable. Several years ago I put down alcohol for a couple of years and thought I could handle occasional drinking. Big ole lie and I've been pounding the stuff down ever since then. I just hope I have some good years left after abusing my body for so long.

"You do not have to have a problem with drinking for drinking to be a problem."
I wish you a very happy 100 sober days! Those are just two quotes I saw today that I enjoyed that seemed possibly pertinent to this thread. I hope however long your sobriety lasts, you put your health and happiness first.
