Can't climb out of this hole

I keep getting sucked back in. I'm losing hope that I can turn this around.

Professor D - I'm so glad to see you. I'm sorry for what you're going through, but posting may help with the anxiety. You know we all understand.

You can turn it around, you just haven't done that yet. Try again.

Prof I hear you some of us just really struggle to maintain sobriety. I don't know why. I try to maintain my surrender BUT it goes away from me again. It's strange Really! Self sabotage over and over!!
For me I reckon I just complicate the simplicity!
Like I've got somethin to prove somehow! But no one's listening Really! It's like I'm scared to grow up!!

I also reached a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. Despite all my efforts there was zero evidence that I could turn this around. I had to face the fact that I was beaten, and from that desperate position came the willingness to do absolutely anything to stop the misery. I asked for help from people who had been in the same hole. They jumped in with me and showed me the way out. I haven't needed to drink since.

When I was deep in the pit of active addiction it was impossible to even remember what life was like on the surface, in the sunshine.

That's where faith came in for me: though I couldn't even remember a clean, decent existence, let alone imagining myself in it once more, I took a leap of faith out of the pit and...

by golly there it was, the sunshine, the light

(and had been there all along).

It's still there, Professor, even if you can't see it or even remember it.

Take that leap, on faith.

You CAN do this Professor D. Stay close to SR and remember to post before you pick up. We understand and can help you avoid that first drink. Hang in there.

You've turned it around before Prof - you can do it again. All is needs to start to you off is a day one

Keep adding and trying new things until you get the balance right - escape velocity right?

You will get it right if you don't stop trying.
What's the root cause, stress, anger management, triggers, emotional management, peer, ... ?

Welcome back

Prof,

Search my posts. Look where I was eight days ago. I know I'm only on day 8 now but at least it's a start. Make that start too?

Sorry fixed my typos, midnight was late for me!

Prof, draw a line in the sand and stay active in your class thread. I find that the comradery of sober classmates is effective and helps keep us accountable.

In your corner Prof.....just get that Day 1. Take it a minute at a time if necessary. Lean on us. You have done this before, you can do it again.
