First Meeting

As the title says I went to my first AA meeting today. It was hard, but a good group of folks. My girlfriend has no idea I’m putting away 400ml of vodka every night. She’s leaving for vacation next week, and I’m taking a week off to take care of the dogs. I have to start today because if I don’t I know I will end up day drinking which I don’t do now.

If you stop drinking now, you'll be in better shape to look after the dogs.

I'm glad you're working on your recovery and that you are being responsible with taking care of the dogs.

Something you often hear in AA meetings is "90 in 90". This refers to doing 90 meetings in the first 90 days. Do lots of meetings that week. LOTS. Go all the way in, and sit all the way down. Congrats on making that 1st meeting. It's often the most difficult one to attend.

All the best to you.

I actually got teary eyed when I said I was an alcoholic. I plan on getting to a lot of meetings.

Not a way to go for some but SWB you could taper 50 ml less per night to swerve withdrawals and be sober when she got back - your gift to her . THE gift that keeps on giving!

I agree, make as many meetings as you can in a day and do other things to really fill your days. Being alone like that used to really send me binging.
GL. Have a great time. Very smart to start ahead.

Absolutely agree with this. I made it close- I think 82 in 90- and grew my early discipline about BB study, working the steps, etc that lasts to this day, 26 mo later today.

A week of a start is a blessing to have. I hope you take great advantage of it and start a journey in sobriety that turns into a life of recovery.

Glad you are here!

(oh, and my dog likes me and my sober husband WAY better too!)
