Day 5 (Again)

Hi everyone, I'm back after trying to quit drinking almost 4 years ago. Throughout my 20's, I only drank every other day but never considered it a big issue since I wasn't a daily drinker. Over time, it's evolved into 2 (sometimes 3) days in a row with a recovery day in between. Although I don't have physical withdrawal symptoms when I stop drinking, I still crave it on a mental level, and I almost always drink alone as a way to deal with boredom.

It seems like the longest I can go is about 10 days without drinking, but I end up getting so bored and irritable that I can't take it anymore. However, I can feel the physical and mental effects of it starting to catch up with me and want to put drinking behind me once and for all. Now that I'm 5 days into sobriety, I feel better physically and my mood is starting to improve. However, my face is breaking out worse than usual, which is annoying (I've had adult acne for the past 2 years or so). Anyways, thanks for listening, and any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

Go a few more days and you will have saved enough $$ by not drinking for a nice spa day and get a facial/day of relaxation/reward.

@Dee74 Other than dumping out all liquor in the house, I usually just drank lots of water to flush out my system and cut back on caffeine to help with falling asleep. I also tried exercising a lot, but it seemed like the exercise fueled my cravings, so I don't plan on doing much exercise for at least the first couple weeks this time around.

Hi Spectered. I needed a plan to support my decision not to drink. My plan is pretty simple — I read here, post sometimes, listen to sobriety podcasts, exercise and maintain a routine that doesn't allow time for alcohol. Your plan may vary; the important thing is to have one Try a bunch of stuff, stick with what works, and don't sweat the rest.

Spectered - for adult acne - especially if you get huge ones on your back etc - try antibiotics - after all else inc roaccutane - they were what I needed.

Day 7

@daveglass1 I actually took accutane back when I was 17 - kept me clear for about 11 years, but I guess my crappy genetics are starting to win again... I don't think they would give me accutane now since the acne I have is a lot milder than it was back then, but maybe antibiotics can do the trick.

@january161992 It's actually going quite well, I feel a lot happier than I did a week ago. I almost lost my temper when I got stuck in line today, but I chalked it up to a bump in an otherwise smooth road so far
