Hi friends,
I found this website doing a google search about codependent relationships with parents whom are mentally ill and or have addiction struggle.. while I was reading I couldn’t help but think about how much I related.
I just lost my dad on Wednesday March 28, 2018. Moving through this has been very difficult. Today was my first day back at work and it seemed more surreal than ever. It must have been a reality check that this is real, he is no longer here and he is not at work today, but I am.
My dad battled not only with himself and his mental health issues but also with drugs (doc- herion, pain killers any downer really). Unfortunately I lost him to his mental health and he took his own life in our family home.

Please give me some advice of how to move through this. I know it’ll get easier everyday but time seems like it’s at a stand still and it doesn’t feel like it will ever get any easier.

Thanks for reading xo

Welcome to the family. I'm sorry you lost your dad, especially in such a way.

I have no advice for you but want to welcome you to our corner of the world.

We have a friends and family forum for loved ones of substance abusers. You might find some comfort there.

I would think that it’s just going to take some time to heal from your loss while doing your best to engage in good self care.

I'm sorry for your loss BKK. If you're having trouble dealing with your loss, have you considered grief counselling at all?
