I have been on this site forever. Reading, not posting. And it’s true, I am literally allergic to alcohol, I develop red rush all over my body every time I drink. Still can’t stop. Please help

I'm pretty sure 23andMe's DNA tests indicates some people are genetically predisposed to flush when drinking alcohol. I'm sorry you've had trouble quitting. I hope you'll use the resources and advice on here (and seek help of groups like AA, and your doctor as appropriate) and give quitting another try. Best of luck to you.

Welcome to the posting side of things mako. I'd also recommend seeing your doctor about it.

When you say you "can't" stop, have you tried any formal recovery method or counseling/detox/rehab at all? Those are all valid options to try. Posting more often here in itself can be a very helpful tool as well.

As hard as it may be, you've got to just stop drinking. The first week is rough but it gets better.

I found AA great for me anyway. I am 7 years sober this March. I went to 90 meetings in 90 days my first 3 months in AA. I now go to about 3 meetings a week as a maintenance dosage of medicine through the ears. Good of luck finding a solution that works for you.

When I stopped smoking 11 years ago it was just that. I don’t smoke anymore. I knew I was done. I was elated. Why can’t I recreated this feeling with drinking?

Good to have you with us, mako. I'm glad you've decided that drinking is harming you. I thought I could use willpower to cut down, but it never worked once. Hoping you can get free of it & have a better life.

You can do it with just a few basic steps. Walk in the doors of AA, give an addiction center a call, schedule an appointment with an addiction specialist,.. The options for recovery are endless, you just have to take a little action to make it happen.

I know exactly what you mean. I am just so scared. I live in a very secluded part of the world, and I don’t want to get exposed

How would you get exposed? That's what all these resources are for is to help people get clean and on their way to living a happy life without the addiction hell.

I guess you live in America. Here you can lose your children if you are not careful enough (Scotland)

Are you asian? my Gf is and has that when she drinks. makes things easy that my partner is very uninterested to alcohol because of the effects on her body. i believe it has something to do with how the liver processes alcohol

We have a fair number of parents in Scotland here - many of whom go to meetings Mako?

I understand the fear of losing your kids if you 'break cover' but do you think your kids are any safer if you continue drinking?

A parent in recovery must look better than a parent in active addiction.

Dont let your addicted self put up silly arguments for doing nothing.

I'm not from the UK but there are other Brits here who may be able to share their experience...

The National Alcohol Helpline-UK - Tel: 0800 917 8282
