First time posting

I have come to this sight many times while trying to get sober the past 3 years, sometimes I went a couple months, other times a few days. I woke up with anxiety and guilt this morning which is usually a precursor to start drinking at some point in the day or evening, so I am trying this instead and hope I can hang on today and get out from under this dark cloud.

Nice to meet you😊 I’m really happy you posted. Why don’t you join the March newcomers thread or the 24 hour thread? Maybe take a look at dee’s link about making plans too. Remember you aren’t alone in this.

Yep. Real familiar. The good news is that with continuous sober time the dread and anxiety goes away. It's a little uncomfortable getting there and it doesn't happen as quickly as you would want, but it does happen.

One day at a time. Go to bed sober tonight. Welcome to the posting side.

Do we really need more people here who drink destructively because they have anxiety and guilt?

Welcome to SR Todayrae. As Biminiblue pointed out, the dread and anxiety will go away with continuous sobriety. For me, the dread went away after a day or two. The anxiety has lessened considerably, but still surfaces from time to time around my former drinking time. I'm able to squash it down. Stay close to SR. Read, read, read the threads. It really helps and will go a long way in reducing the urge to drink. During my first few days, I spent hours on here. Please post if you have questions or having a tough time. Especially important is to post BEFORE you drink. Wait for responses. We're here for you. You don't have to do this alone.

Welcome! I’ve been a lurker for a long time too... just about the same amount of time actually! I know exactly how you feel with the cycle of anxiety. Hang in there and be kind to yourself🙂
