I never really start threads here. I thought I should start.

I'm a math guy, so I thought I'd jot down my equation:

Grandfather died from alcohol + Mom recovering alcoholic + Me heavy drinker = Me Alcoholic.

Ok, feels good to solve that equation.

I see the x variable on the axis, but where's the why?

Welcome back Tang. I think no matter what the left side of the equation says, if the right side says "alchoholic" there is a solution available. Hope we can help you find it.

I didn't need a house to fall on me - I did that regularity coming out of a bender, or at least it felt that way...

I just needed to accept I was an alcoholic - and do something about it.

Any ideas what more you might do about it?

I am not good at maths but here are my equations. Number 1 sets out the problem

Problem

1)Me + when I start drinking I lose control + when I honestly want to I cannot stop = me suffering alcoholic.

Solution

2) Me (willingness) + AA steps + Sponsor + helping others = me +
spiritual experience , simplifies to: me - alcoholic problem.
