Doctors
Doctors
Hi all
I went to the doctors today to attend a pre-booked appointment after seeing the nurse getting weighed and having bloods taken...
Not much said about blood results a nod of the head at the lower blood pressure THEN
A chat about drinking ......
He asked me did I have any bad symptoms the first week or so and I didn't, asked me how much I was drinking ..He said he was liberal but over 100 units a week was too much.
We agreed that the days of having a few social pints twice a week were over. I'd soon be back up there to the high levels of consumption
His final words "You have to abstain forever"
The pros far outweigh the cons
I know he's correct
I'm 58 days sober now I'm lucky I have the will and the strength but more importantly I have the support I need around me.
Also you lot are stuck with my posts forever Haha
This is the single most important action in my life at present. There are a few secondary things that dare to try and intercede but they will sort themselves out one way or another and I care not how they work out....
Take care all
Best wishes
Dave

I really like your post Rockfish. You went to the doctor, were comlpetely honest, then took his advice and you seem happy to be on the sober path now. We talk about it in our book. With a good enough reason like a doctors warning, there is a type of drinker who can stop or moderate. And life is sure to get better.
It put me in mind of an experience I had, with a different outcome. I went to our family doctor, a guy I liked, who had been forewarned about my drinking.
I spun him some yarn about problems in child hood and was not particularly honest with him.
He sent me along to a rehab. They said they would take me for a week and then I would be interviewed to see if I really wanted to get well. I had the feeling these guys could see right through me. Scared me to death.
I shot out of there and had my ride drop me at the closest bar. The whole process had me ducking and diving and the only thing I could see to do was have a drink.
