30 days today
Hi all,
Today is day 30 and I just wanted to say thank you for being a place for me to lurk and feel welcome. I don't know anyone in 'real life' who does not drink so it has been a strange transition for me. I am sad to say I think I may have lost a "friend"...a couple of times she has asked me what I am doing after work then said "Oh wait! You're not drinking." Guess she wasn't that much of a friend after all but its still sad to lose a personal connection.
The last few days have been actually pretty easy, I almost didn't think about drinking. Then, this morning before work, I found a half-full bottle of wine in my garage (maybe from my hiding days). I gave it a good, long (maybe too long) stare, but then walked back into the house.
Anyway, thanks to this group of people! You guys are great!

Hi there and well done on 30 days.
Almost everyone I know drinks alcohol and it’s associated with almost every social activity too but rest assured there are sober ones among us and more than I realised. I have actually noticed that on the occasions I have been in the company of people drinking I was surprised at how little they actually got through (unless it was for my benefit) or more probable the amount I would have got through. God save the queen.... and the liver!!!

Hi 4 thorns congrats on 30 days.
I found I had a lot of friendships where the only real common bond was drinking.
Those kind of relationships died but I made new friends and reconnected with others
I'm sure you will too

I too have noticed I've been spending less time with my old drinking buddies. I myself have been making less calls to some of those people but that's alright, it'll sort itself out. Your best friends will understand the importance of the commitment to health you've made and stick with you. Hell, a few of them might even surprise you and back you up.
30 Days is a major milestone with powerful momentum behind it. Newfound strength you can and will use to continue making good choices for yourself and your loved ones.
Anyway congratulations on making this goal 4Thorns, it gets a lot easier, then just an afterthought as time goes on. Your body and mind are no doubt starting to heal and you're likely feeling some of the positive effects. You can look forward to feeling even better and more confident with a great sense of freedom going forward.
Best,
