Recovery. Fear of the unknown. Dry Drunk.
Hi Everyone!
I'm on my 21st day alcohol free and I'm
a) grouchy as hell one minute or..
b) totaĺly elated and loving life or....
c) stuffing as much sugar down me as much as I can...
I'm sure you're all familiar with the scene.
What REALLY bothers me is a truly sober future. I suppose because It's unknown territory to me. All sounds so simple when you write it out doesn't it? Maybe it is? Anyway, bearing (baring?) all that in mind I'm taking it one day at a time and trying to stay present.
I'm excited to have finally joined this forum (micro-victory!!) I've always loved reading the threads!

Glad you have joined SR, John.
Very well done on 21 days. My moods and emotions were all over the place but they do settle down.
Keep the good work going. You are doing the right thing by taking it a day at a time.

It's great to hear you have 21 days .... that is huge and a great inspiration to those on days 1-20 especially!
I do a lot of looking at my self and one thing that has helped a lot is to begin to see that the real answer to anything in the future is "I don't know". Learning to live with that sure makes sobriety a bit easier!
I look forward to seeing you still here tomorrow on day 22!

Johnax welcome!
Micro victories are actually pretty amazing in the early days!
Try not to panic about how long it takes to feel "better". I was emotionally worse at 2 months than I was at the very beginning
I had to learn how to cope with the day-to-day without the crutch of a bottle every time I was angry/tired/lonely/happy/ scared/anxious........
21 days is brilliant! In fact every day further away from that poison is a BIG victory!
If I was to recommend anything right now it would be to become an active member here. Find the Class of February 2018 and the 24 hour thread.
Read read read and post post post. You are not alone and SR made all the difference for me. It can for you too!

took me a few months to get to 'level' thinking. Give it some time and try not to dwell on it. I've seen/heard /done the "F'it..if i'm going to feel like this I might as well drink." That's just BS..Once I got past the first few months I was way more grounded in my thinking and actions when those thoughts did pop up. Now they're hardly even a faint memory.
Good job, Johnax! Yes, the biggest fear is the fear of the unknown and it's uncharted territory from what we're used to. I think we all go through emotional ups and downs until we get settled into our new lifestyle. And sugar! Yes.... You're doing great. Keep it up...
