Can't stay sober-please help
Hey. You guys know me. Maybe. I was doing good. I stopped the antabuse then drank on a trip to NY. Now I can only put together days. I'm open to suggestions. I need to stop this.

Once I take that 1st drink I have never been able to get back on track without some help. Weather it is everyday AA, SR, or other program, treatment, a hospital, or a recovery period of time with a live in cheerleader.
That's just me, others have been able to do detox and get on steady track without help.
you could talk to your dr about Vivitrol. When I did that, it meant I only had to make a decision to not drink once a month when I got the shot.
Depending on your financial and insurance situation, it could be helpful.

One thing I have found that is helping me is learning about addiction and the brain. Neurotransmitters and pathways changing over time with heavy and/or regular drinking changes your neural pathways so quite often will power alone just won’t work for many people. You can have will power in other areas and wonder why you don’t have it when it comes to alcohol. It’s because that particular pathway has been to the gym everyday and is all muscled up, too strong to fight. For once I don’t feel like a failure because I couldn’t stop without lots of help.
Antabuse is great! Rehab is great! SR is great as an add on for me. But learning to accept and understand drinking is damaging my whole body including my brain chemistry was a real eye opener.

Well first thing you need to do is believe in yourself. Never say 'I can't stay sober' that's your addiction trying to kill you. For example, you can't jump a 14,000 cliff and survive. But getting sober is not going to kill you nor is it impossible so don't ever think you can't do it. A more truthful statement would be 'I am struggling to stay sober.'
You can stay sober and you will. Believe in yourself. You just have to find a strategy that works for you. Clearly what you are doing is not working so try something else. Keep reading threads. See what works for others and try and come up with your own unique plan. You'll get there.

Hi Press - sorry you're struggling.
Where did you leave it with AA? I'd think aboutt goign back.
The aim is to put more effort into not drinking than you do into drinking.
You've done this before. I believe you can do it again..and this time I believe you can find the key to permanent recovery, if you want

Hey, Press--sorry you're in a bad place at the moment. I needed help to stop drinking--a lot of it. At first I was very resistant to the idea of inpatient rehab but it turned out to be the best thing to get me sober and on the right track. I wish you all the best--I know it's hard but it can be done. Rooting for you.

Go to AA. I am to 3 days and there is no way I would be here if not for the people I met the last 3 days. It's so far outside of our comfort zone as isolating, selfish, arrogant alcoholics to go to AA, and that's why we have to go.
