Smile Weight loss

I've been sober for 3 months, i expected the pounds to just melt away from lack of beer. I've been working out at least 4-5 times a week without fail and i haven't lost a single pound. I also stopped drinking any sodas or fruit juices and started to eat small meal portions 3-4 times a day to up my metabolism. I lift weights and run. I'm 31/M/6'2/250lbs

Diet? Dumping beer and soda is a good start. What are your go to foods? Following any type of diet plan? Personally, I had the most success eliminating carbs.

Congratulations on 3 months of sobriety. Awesome! Any new exercise program, particularly those involving weight lifting will cause the muscles to retain water as they repair. It will even out and is temporary. Perhaps the lifters or exercise folks will chime in here with more information.

When I got sober for a year it took six months. Then the weight did just fall off. I'd been drinking every day all day for 15 years.

I never lose weight when I stop drinking. For me I'm quite sure I simply eat more....and I work out like crazy which actually increases my appetite. And I'm old, so there's that

Maybe some blood work to just have a baseline and make sure there aren't any underlying issues?

First, congrats on 3 months!!!

You have been working out a lot - your muscles are expanding which happens a lot quicker in men. Muscle weighs comparably more than fat. Do your clothes fit any differently??

Well done on 3 months.

Regarding weight it sounds as though you are doing all of the right things. It will certainly be doing wonders for your health.

Be patient all things come eventually if you put in the effort

Just stick with it and try some tweaks
Tweaks with both food types, quantities and exercise.
Make sure that you are flushing your system with lots of water keeping the outs a pale straw colour.

Keep up the good work😎

Hey Dude

Did you know muscle weighs more than fat?
Go by clothes size not weight, Have you dropped down a size in shirt/trouser waist?
My belly has shrunk and I'm approx same weight from xl3 to xl2
Let me know.
Dave

3 months is awesome!!!

While the scale may not move, are you taking before and during photos to see a physical change? Are you lifting heavier weights? Do you feel better?- That is what I like to focus on, the scale sucks, lol

Body massage index is nonsense as well!

All body builders and power lifters would be obese. They are not, bodybuilders have a tiny body fat ratio.

How long have you been working out for? Can take up to 3 months to see a difference. Oh and don't eat pizza.

For me I've shed 9lb in 18 days, I've not been exercising but I have started to eat 3 relatively healthy meals plus fruit each day instead of one meal and unhealthy snacks each day oh and I've stop taking sugar in my coffee , can definitely see the difference around my stomach 👍👍

Hi Dude,

Like you, when I first stopped drinking I was working out regularly, eating well, no soda... and the lbs were not coming off. I asked my friends here on SR why I wasn't losing weight and I got a lot of the same responses as you have. I stuck with my workout and healthy eating regime and all of a sudden, I began seeing the scale move. It was not like weight loss I have experienced in the past...steady 1-2 lbs per week. It was a sudden drop...4-5lbs, then I wouldn't lose any weight for another 3-4 weeks, then another drop. As long as you stay on track with your workouts and eating well, you WILL lose weight!
