Withdrawal and Benzos

Will taking the benzos my doctor gave me to ease withdrawal prolong the withdrawal. For example, if I take the benzos for a week as proscribed as needed for alcohol withdrawal symptoms will I withdrawal from the benzos afterwards? Does any have experience with this?

It won't delay withdrawals from alcohol. But if you abuse benzos, then you could have withdrawal symptoms from benzos.

chances are that a modest prescription for a short period of time will not lead to dependence (you mentioned one week)......if you do not drink AND take the medication exactly as prescribed, that should minimize any potentialities.

if taken as prescribed, you won't get withdrawal from the benzo's after taking them for a week

Docs will prescribe you an anti-withdrawal benzo for about 4-5 days to get you through any serious complications that may happen.
They do so for a short time with a daily taper down until your are stabilized by about that time. It won't prolong the withdrawals and you won't get hooked on them from the short time you are on them.
Though keep in mind this is just to get you through the detox process, from there you need to get a solid sobriety plan in action so you don't have to go through it again.

Just don't drink on those meds and you will be alright. As soon as you taper off the meds, you will be feeling 100 % better. Believe me , I have done this dance before. Best wishes
