Lost another friend from rehab - outpatient this time

I just got some sad news today. A woman that I knew from outpatient rehab took her life. She had multiple addictions and a host of mental health issues. At first she scared me and was hard to be around because she had so many issues and was intensely sick....and definitely needed a lot of support and feedback. Constant talk of life not being worth living, her abuse in her childhood and teen years, relapsing a great deal.

She won me over pretty quickly though, as she was extremely giving, especially given how huge were her own needs. I used to hug her a lot, which was also a big deal because she didn't really like to be touched, but liked it when I did it.

Sad news, but not surprising. Whenever she skipped a day, several people would immediately call and text her to make sure she hadn't ODd.

I'll miss her, and will have to miss her memorial service at the beach this Saturday.

Life is fragile, and addiction kills. She was 22.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I just lost someone as well, they were in their mid 50s and had been clean for some time. A bad news ex came into the picture begging for a place to stay, called the cops on him and got him in trouble. We didn't hear from him for a bit and a friend did a welfare check after getting a nasty text from the x saying he's probably OD'd and dead.

It's a sobering reminder that people do die from addiction. I almost don't want to keep in touch with people from inpatient or outpatient rehab because I'm sure there will be more.
