17 Days Sober
This is my first post on this site. I am a functioning alcoholic with a very steady job, home, marriage, and healthy kids. I live in a upper middle class neighborhood and I am very active in my church as well. Unfortunately, I got into a bad habit of drinking by myself until I pass out every night. I once went 6 months sober but thought I could control my drinking by having one glass of wine during our anniversary dinner a couple of years ago. I am ready to give it a try again and I have been 17 days sober so far. I want to avoid having that first drink again. Does anyone have any advice?
Welcome, ng55, and congratulations on 17 days!!!
When I first landed at SoberRecovery, I spent so much time pouring over the copious threads and stickies. I quickly discovered that this place is a gold mine of information, wisdom, and support.
I still spend time everyday reading and posting at SR, it is like my home away from home
What really cemented my sobriety was a complete and utter acceptance of the fact that I am unable to drink normally and that will never change, no matter how long I stay sober.
More folk will be along to share their collective wisdom

Welcome to SR!
Congrats on 17 days
If you are active in your church do they offer celebrate recovery?
Maybe try AA?
I found I have to work a program, like many.
There are a lot of options SMART is also a good one that i hear often from SR

Hi and welcome ng
SR have me the support and understanding to turn my life around - to not buy booze and to start a day 1.
I've never stopped since then
Read around and post as much as you like - I know we can help you do the same
