Hello!

Hello! I'm Gustavo, 24 yr old, from PR. It's been 15 days since my last binge episode of knowingly dissolving my problems through vast array of shots, drinks and bottles, whatever would get me to that place of numbness and faux self-confidence. It's the most I've gone without drinking, I've tried to go sober before, failing miserably time and time again. I feel kind of numb, it's a tumultuous mountain of problems to resolve on my personal life now that I'm conscious enough to face them and not hide my face behind that bottle. Is it normal to feel numbness and high levels of anxiety at work and other places where you'd normally not be sober? It's getting to be less stressing as days go by, but I'm always weary of a moment, like a marked number in my sobriety that will be the gateway for that one drink.

Anyways, I'm new to this forum, I hope y'all are good and fine.

Welcome gustagusta...
It's perfectly normal after 15 days to feel all kinds of s**ty symptoms especially ANXIETY. Be gentle with yourself. You've made the best decision in probably a long time.

No one knows how hard each day is for a struggling recovering alcoholic;
they don't understand. BUT we do.

Myself, I told my Dr. of my intention of withdrawal at home. He prescribed a mild benzodiazepine (valium) to ward off seizures and anxiety.

Hi Gustavo. There's definitely a lot to figure out being newly sober around familiar people/places/events. And sometimes there may not be a graceful way to deal with a situation — that's okay, and there's no reason to dwell on it. Sobriety fits more naturally as time passes.
