Still Trying....day 4

Well it’s minus 40 degrees here in Ontario, Canada and there was no heat at my workplace today….I made it through the day, feeling ill, wanting\craving a drink…My normal routine on a Friday night would be to drive directly to the beer store after work come home, start a fire, give my cats some treats and then crack a cold one, and then another and another…. My favourite night to get smashed…. with no responsibilities the next day and feeling I deserved it because I worked hard all week! Well I’m home, the fire is on, the cats got their treats but I drove right past the beer store, looked at the sign and said “Never Again” ….Going to be my first weekend sober in a very long time….feel good about my decision tonight but feel terrible about what I have done to my health….. Peace!

I saw -40 when I lived in Alaska, that's the one temperature where it's the same in F and C!

Brrr, not much you can do in that except avoid it.

We have had a break in the bitter cold weather, but now it is melty, messy and slippery!

I am so happy you made it home and you are now safe and sound with your kitty's

You will regain everything, all in good time, your health, your spirit, your life. I know it is hard not to have regrets but you know you are doing the right thing now so one less thing you will have to regret!

It wasn't easy for me in the early days but I am so grateful that I persevered.

I look forward to your progress!

Hello Needsumsupport,
I am on day 12 . Congrats on day 4 that is wonderful. You will wake up tomorrow feeling refreshed and ready for day 5. I am taking it one day at a time. I almost drank on Wed and I am so glad I did not. I feel so empowered when I stay sober. I need to practice this self love.
Give your kitty's a hug from me....I have one and he loves treats too.

Good job with that! I know, because those times off work, feeling like rewarding myself, were my biggest triggers, and still are. You'll be in good shape recognizing that tendency, and having lots of other "reward" things planned out to replace the usual booze. I always found things I would usually not buy for myself because of their cost; nothing major like electronics, but a high-end soft drink brand, or a fresh mango!

Congrats on a sober Friday night; plan out the day today, remember your goal, and enjoy waking up fresh on a Sunday morning. It's a good thing...

Oh, and stay warm! This cold snap is a major bitch!

Hi, needsum! 4 days is fabulous--keep them coming. I understand wanting a reward, but the real reward is sobriety, and the peace, freedom from guilt, release from fear and dignity it brings. Wishing you all the best in this sober new year.

Way to go Needsumsupport. You can do this!
I remember the first week or two of waking up sober- and giggling...no thick head, no fur on the tongue..no wondering what was said or sent via e mail the evening prior. When I couldn't remember who scored the goals in last night's hockey game, I knew this drinking was becoming an issue. Hang in there, my friend- it only gets better (and slightly easier)

Thanks Donna B - today has been ok, but the nights are hard for me...I bought myself a chocolate bar today....I never eat sweets, LOL! Also bought myself some scratch tickets...I won $35, gotta be a good sign right?? Money well spent, better than buying beer!!
