Facebook triggering?
Facebook triggering?
There are tons of Xmas photos of smiling happy families on Facebook... I am finding it to be a bit triggering for me because I spent the holiday alone. Has this happened to anyone else? I suppose the only thing to do is stay off of Facebook.

Yes, but it's not just the holidays that tend to get me down, for me, it's ALL the time. FB is not real life, it's everyone's life highlights. Keep that in mind. No one posts that their dog keeps popping in the house or that they work two jobs or how hard it is to stay in an unhappy marriage. Their FB is the highlight reel and even that is exaggerated. Pay NO mind to that glossy candy view.
A lot of people say to just delete Facebook, but I love it for the connection it gives me to my friends and family. I live in Italy and all of my family and most of my friends are in the US, so it is only through Facebook that I can keep up. That said, I also have a multitude of "friends" that I don't really know or care about. Either way, I am inundated with photos and posts of happy, loving, perfect people. Sometimes it does hurt me. I feel jealous and long for such a life. But I really try to concentrate on those that I hold most dear and be happy for them. It isn't easy, I feel you on that, but it is possible.
I have a longtime habit of logging onto Facebook first thing in the morning, and perusing it over coffee. Recently, I've changed this habit to logging onto SR first instead. I think of that cliche, "don't compare your insides with someone else's outsides," which I am DEFINITELY guilty of doing.
There's also things posted on FB that keep me steadfast in my sobriety.
Like when somebody is on there drunk and post all kinds of nonsense.
Then they have to live with that and try to explain what happened.
We don't have to deal with that anymore. Or hope that we didn't say something stupid while intoxicated.

Good ol' FaKebook! I love the new filters people are using to make themselves look 10yrs younger. I mainly use it to keep in touch with family/friends across the country. Then I have 3 pages used for business only. My exAgf would post a picture of us at say 8pm captioned "love of my life", then be ripping my head off at 8:30pm,so Fakenews!
Hey there,
Great post! Yeah Facebook is a big trigger for me too. In fact i got back on it recently after staying off of it for 8 months. I'm thinking about ditching it again. It's too bad that i'll be losing touch with certain people that don't know how to interact otherwise but my sobriety is important to me. If they don't know how to pick up the damn phone it's their loss.
