Turning 21 was the worst thing that ever happened to me.
Hi, everyone.
I just turned 30 and am coming to terms with the mess I've made of my life. Hoping to find some support and advice here. Y'all seem to have it all together.

Welcome!
I can't speak for anyone else, however, I, by far have everything together, lol!
What's your game plan?
Have you gone to any meetings?
Read any books?
What can we assist with, you'll find tons of support!

It is 18 here but I started drinking at 16. I am now 21. When I turned 18 and left home for school, things went downhill cause I could buy booze easily and being away from the rents made me complacent.

I don't have a game plan, per se. I've tried AA in the past and didn't get much out of it. Maybe I wasn't ready, but even at my most sincere the whole Higher Power thing was a huge stumbling block. I'm just not a very spiritual person.
Appreciate the responses so far, though. I just need people to talk to about it, I guess.

Hello and welcome!
I think making a plan would really help. Other people can advise exactly how to do that better than me, but having a ready response in situations where you are likely to be offered a drink is very useful. Finding things to do in the times where you used to drink helps with boredom. Going for walks outside when you have cravings etc (fresh air, sunlight, exercise). Indoors, doing some stretching or taking a shower have gotten me through times of cravings.
One day at a time - don't stress too much about never drinking in the future, just focus on not drinking today, every day. The days will begin to pile up, and it gets easier after a while.
Good luck!

Welcome, ahnhel. Talking things over here helped me so much - I had felt all alone until I joined.
At 30 I knew I was abusing alcohol - but I kept insisting I could use willpower to control it. Almost 20 yrs. later I was still caught in the trap - with a ruined life. All the things I swore I'd never do under the influence - I ended up doing. Thankfully, you see what needs to be done - and you've sought help. You can turn it all around & have a wonderful life. Hope you'll stay with us.

Welcome ahnhel - never too late to turn things around in my opinion
My advice is to read here, posts as much as you like - see what others are doing to stay sober - find a way that makes sense to you and go for it
