lawyer meeting tomorrow
Unsurprisingly, I have to meet with a lawyer tomorrow to discuss obtaining sole custody of my 5 month old daughter. Daddy has been gone since September. Though we officially made it to 10 years as a couple, we never married.
He has two felony charges of child endangerment from 2011 for driving drunk with his two children (from a prior marriage) in the car, for which he served 4mos in prison. As if that isn't enough, he has a domestic violence charge against me, an arrest for drug possession, a DUI, and FUI, and PLENTY of documented rehab stays. He missed our daughter's birth because he was drunk and has spent almost zero time in our current household caring for her with me for the same reason.
... so this should be very easy for me, right?
Wish me luck. He is MIA and has been for a week since he checked out of rehab to get loaded. I need this to be quick and painless.

UPDATE:
My lawyer thinks it should be really easy. We are going to draft a document for him to sign with a notary saying that he voluntarily gives me full legal and physical custody. My lawyer is also going to draft up the official request that we would submit to to the court and make sure that a copy of it is sent along with the more peaceful contract to demonstrate that we are ready and willing to file if he doesn't sign and that this will end up in court (because there is no way he would sign that document without the threat). She agrees that he would have absolutely no case in court and any lawyer would tell him to just sign the "temporary" custody agreement and revise it if things get better one day.
So. Now to follow through with that. The only thing that would stop me from getting what I want is my own silly heart that wants to believe that there is hope in a hopeless situation. But I am just trying to remind myself that should things miraculously get better, we can always amend the order. It's only as permanent as his behavior. I am determined to stay strong.
