It comes and goes so fast

This life.

It's hard to keep that in mind.

It's difficult to see as we're cruising along, living it.

But trust me; this life comes and goes in a flash.

My Dad's wife is battling lung cancer. He's watching her fade. I'm watching him grapple.

My friend's Mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer.

A friend's Mom just passed away.

Another friend's friend committed suicide.

A young woman I know had a life-altering stroke. She survived, but has a long road ahead of her.

My baby is already ten months old.

A friend of mine slowly drinks himself to death.....

One of the most profound and simplest things that sobriety has brought into focus for me is the cherished, blessed, incredible and LIMITED gift of life we've all been given.

No matter our challenges, our trials, tribulations, sorrows - our lives remain a gift each day we open our eyes and draw breath.

It's ours to discover the nature of that gift..... or to squander it.

Today, my wish for you is the awareness of your gift.

Happy Sober Monday, All.

A beautiful and poignant reminder.

Thank you.

So true, FreeOwl.

I have been trying to focus on emotional acceptance (rational acceptance is often easier!) and PRESENCE - I have found my yoga practice has really helped with that, as well as my running. I think both have to do with my breathing; I used to hold my breath often, like I was scared and waiting for something. I rarely catch myself doing that anymore.

I've written a couple of posts on my blog recently that are about presence, gratitude, acceptance.
