Yet Another Idea for a Post

I’m posting again because I’d like an honest document on how things are at present as well as a list of things I’m doing to combat the state I’m in
I’d like to look back on this later so I won’t ever forget
How I am right now:
Scared
Depressed (a little bit)
Focused on death( not suicidal- focused on this as an occurrence if I keep boozing)
Exhausted
Very little appetite
The cravings sneak up on me
And lastly- the fact that I’m trying to never drink again

Things that are helping;
My family
AA meetings

Yes! It won't always be hard. The longer you're sober, the easier it gets to stay sober.

It gets better.

That’s reassuring
Man, this is tough
Probably the reason I’ve never tried to stop until now
On the plus side- it’s a great deterrent for me becuz I ain’t ever going through this again

At around 3 months sober, I was still feeling discontented and not that happy. It was suggested that I start practicing gratitude every day. Each day find at least one thing I am grateful for.

It's a great positive exercise and really improved my attitude. It helps me focus on the good and not the bad, the haves and not the don't-haves. Try a little gratitude. It might make you happier.

The first week of detox can be rough. But hang in there, it gets so much better.

I’m wondering if paranoia or worst case scenario thinking is part of mental withdrawal

Your brain and all its fumctions take a while to settle down during recovery.Be patient as all that you are experiencing is normal in recovery.

I found that my thoughts were all over the place in early sobriety. Alcohol withdrawal can be a rough time. Hang in there, it gets better.

It is NOT a picnic. Not only is it difficult to learn to live inside our own heads, it’s like our entire culture pushes against the very thing we are trying to do. Run a marathon....then add 60mph winds....or 100 degree heat.

That’s why we can’t do it on our own. The forces are too strong out there, we have to band together so we know other people are doing the same damned thing, every day, like we are. THAT helps me.
