I feel out of control

I've had at least twenty years worth of struggling with binge drinking. Only in the past 5 years have I noticed my problem and been aware. I'm still under alcohols spell and worried about my health and with my relationships with coworkers. I've learned that it's just best to not put myself in those situation but last night I did and regret it. I feel like I keep relapsing

Yea, I knew for awhile I had serious issues with alcohol but could not imagine life sans drinking. Today it's the opposite - can't imagine going back to the restless, irritable and discontented nature. Alcohol was my higher power for decades. It ran me.

Good news - you don't have to drink. There are options.

Welcome

Hi Michael,

Welcome!

Denial is a huge part of alcoholism, and you are not alone in taking time to accept that your drinking is out of control. I'm glad you found us, and you will get lots of support here.

Hello and welcome.
I was out of control, and like you, t took me years to realize it. And by then it become a real problem.
I wouldn't stop for many more years until things got really bad.
So it's good you realize that you may have a problem with drink now.
I found I couldn't moderate and had to quit drinking completely.

I wish you the best and stick around this place you'll find lots of support here.

Welcome Michael - I have (way) over 20 yrs of binge drinking too. I'm recently sober and taking it day by day. I worried a lot about drinking hurting my health.... well honestly about hurting my health worse. The past three years I have been forced to recognize certain health problems. I'm looking forward to being healthier without alcohol.
Good for you for noticing it has become a problem -- there is life without alcohol. I'm gonna find out all about it.

I have admitted to people that I'm an alcoholic for the first time. I had to to finally stop my own denial. It's now out there. It's who I am and now people know and I know that they know.

I feel your desire to escape the clutches of alcohol. I'm right there with you.

Best

JT

It's great to have you join us, Michael - you're never alone.

I know how you feel. That's why I had to make the decision to stop all together. I never knew where that first drink would take me. In the end, it led to danger, embarrassment, and anxiety. It was a relief to get free. You can do it.
