Update on my brother
Amazingly he is still alive.
3 1/2 years ago he was told he had 6 months to live due to cancer.
This sent him into a really deep spiral, numerous emergency room visits and hospital stays.
A year ago this time he and his son were living in a crappy moldy and cold GARAGE. Yes, a garage, no water, no plumbing, no heat.
Fast forward to March and they are evicted as this is an illegal rental.
Homeless, terminal cancer and homeless. Still drinking
I could not let him die in the streets so (codie alert) I bought him a fifth wheel and placed it in an RV park.
In these last 8 months not 1 emergency room visit or hospital stay.
Perhaps what I did was codie behavior but I had to do what my heart demanded.
Contact is limited, he has a home and he is an adult.
I hate this disease
He has been there and much more stable, however continues to drink, even his oncologist acknowledges that he will never stop.

Sadly my nephew (known as Neff) has inherited so many bad habits
from dad. However, if it wasn't for Neff my brother would be dead long, long ago.
My brother is never mean or nasty, just sad.
I have to be really honest and say that the day I bought them the Fifth wheel I felt good. He needed some stability and since his wife died he has been bouncing around like a pinball.
I also gave a copy of the movie "Gay Purree" as it has wonderful sentimental childhood memories for both of us.
I love him, I just can't be around him

It's wise to know when you cannot have a relationship with an addict. It does not mean you love them any less, it just means if you have a relationship with them they will drag you down the rabbit hole with them, it's simply too toxic.
I think it's a kind thing you did which was good for him and good for you, so it's all positive.
