Yes, I remember finding the whole forum thing difficult to navigate at first. I'd say just explore and you'll get the hang of it.

To reply to a post on a thread, just click on "post reply" and then type in your response. To start a thread of your own, just click on "new thread" and enter a title and opening post. You're doing ok so far.

When I first started using SR, I searched around for talk threads whose title caught my eye and started reading. I also looked under the Newcomers Daily Support Threads for the "Class of [ ]" for the month I was quitting (Feb 2016) to see who else was quitting or considering it the same time I was.
