An SR Thanksgiving - 2017!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! If you are experiencing an unexpectedly lonely time this holiday, then why not an SR Holiday!

Come one, come all!! It's going to be a lovely day here No rain, about 60 degrees. I have raked all the leaves into a pile, so don't hesitate to run and jump while you wait for the food to be cooked!

I already have taken several pies out of the oven, and am working on the stuffing for two 40 lb birds that will go in the oven in just a little bit...that should be enough to get us started, don't you think?

Yes, in case you wondered, there will be parades and sports on the TVs and there are several movies here you could watch if you prefer, and I have the canoe out next to the pond for those who want to make your own adventure, lol!

If you care to bring a dish to share, we would love it! Last year, Honeypig brought the cakes and pastries (yum!). And as I recall, Mike brought something from his favorite Taco Truck...

So dress comfortably, bring your favorite book to share (hint, I love it when someone reads to me), craft project, or any of your furbabies you'd like to bring and join us!

Pictionary is such a hoot! I love these cyber-holiday get-togethers, and will stop in when I can. The weather sounds ideal for a long, long walk later on, Seren, so if anyone would like to join me, I'm going to do that for sure.

To go with our coffee or tea this morning, I brought some cinnamon rolls:

Later on, we can dig into this selection:

and maybe some of these too:

All made from scratch by the talented bakers and pastry chefs!

Fresh coffee!! And Peppermint Mocha from KTF if you are feeling particularly indulgent

Help yourself to the fresh fruit and a slice of the frittata I just took out of the oven (it was a little snug with the turkeys and stuffing, but, eh).

Sounds delicious, Seren, thanks. I would love to have some frittata and fruit to fuel me for that big walk later on.

I've been peeling potatoes all morning and will have them mashed up with milk, butter, and sour cream when the birds are done!

I'll make the gravy. I like to brown onions and make a rue, and add the turkey
stock to that to cook down with some fresh ground pepper and sea salt.
I'll also have a giblet batch for those inclined.

Should go well with your potatoes Sparkle!
Save me some fritatta--I'm hiking with the puppy this morning
but will be starving when I get back

Anyone want to go? The lake is beautiful like glass
and easy to see with the leaves down.
They crunch underfoot and smell great--

Thank you so much for these threads Seren,

I want a bite of everything in that dessert case honeypig; i have such a sweet tooth, yum!

I've got a corn chowder recipe that works great as an appetizer with some fresh green salad and/or breads (which honeypig also has covered. ) I've got 2 6-qt crock pots, that should be enough to go around.

That sounds awesome, Firesprite! I have salad of spring greens, dried cranberries, Gorgonzola cheese with honey balsamic dressing...

The birds will be done at 2 pm EST/11 am West coast!

For the vegans among you, I have prepared a lovely vegetable and quinoa dish that should also be ready at the same time, yay!

If you take the canoe out, don't forget to wear your life vest and I have just come inside from putting a badminton net up in the front yard under the big oak tree. We lose of lot of birdies that way, but it is beautiful!

If napping is more your thing, then there are plenty of cozy sofas, pillows and blankets and a fire going in the fireplace.

Kick your shoes off and get comfortable!

To go along with the heavenly massed potatoes and gravy that Sparklekitty and Hawkeye are bringing, I will have roasted asparagus, the classic green bean casserole, and steamed broccoli and cauliflower with butter!!

Almost table time!!!

Hi Joel--why don't you join us? You don't have to cook if you don't want to

Puppy surprised a flock of turkeys roosting in the woods.
I think she was as surprised as they were--they ran off and flew up in the trees
and puppy looks around in surprise and sits down.

I told her not to worry--her turkey is already cooking in the oven
