Question about withdrawaling

Hi Folks! Long time no talk to.

Question for this group. . .A woman in my AA group quick drinking after a long history with large daily amounts.

She said that the first day she quit, she didn't feel that bad. Then the second day, she felt really bad withdrawal symptoms. (shakes, anxiety, couldn't sleep. .. )

I thought that maybe she was still drunk from the night before, but she said she woke up sober (quit at 7 pm the night before.)

Is this possible? I know everyone's experience is different. I just remember my Day 1s being hell, lessening a lot by Day 2.

I don't want her to pick up again.

Withdrawal seems to be a bit different for everyone. Checking with a dr is always a good idea.

Thanks! I just did some online research, and it really seems to vary. What have some of your experiences been?

Our experiences are somewhat irrelevant when it comes to her actual detox process. It's definitely possible that withdrawals can be delayed multiple days into the detox process. I understand that you'd like her to not pick up again, but that's a decision only she can make. If she's having physical problems she needs to see a doctor, not get advice from the internet.

I always felt bad from the get go but that kind of delayed reaction is some thing I've seen a lot here.

Is there something you doubt about the story Change?

Like Scott said it's good to care but try and remember boundaries. Her journey not yours.

Speaking of - how are you?
Hows your own journey coming along?

The first day she would still have alcohol in her system so it makes sense that the second day would be worse. However it really is different for all.
I hope she finds lots of support at AA
