Well that was a tough one! 😓
I am so grateful to be in bed and sober. Have had a horrible day of anxiety finished off by a family meal out where I was the only one not drinking...I used to use alcohol to numb the anxiety and get me through family gatherings...today I had to get through both without alcohol. I used meditation, breathing exercises, napping and a hot bath to try to manage the anxiety. I recited my Sobriety Affirmation and read through the reasons I have chosen to embrace sobriety in preparation for this evening.
I'm pleased to be ending an all round crap day ☹

You did it and that is excellent!
It is 840 here right now and I just finished a huge meal (I eat a lot when I don’t drink).
I’m ready for bed, no drinks. Spin class in the morning.
Congrats on your night and staying sober.

According to your bio, you are 1 year and 9 months sober. Doesn't it bother you that a meal out with the family is such a drama for you? Do you have a really badly behaved family, or are you struggling in sobriety?
If it is the family, I wouldn't be going to such an event. If it is fear of alcohol in a social setting, I would suggest you may have more work to do on your recovery. Untreated alcholism is bad news and has us handling most situations in fear and uncertainty, very stressful indeed.
It is great you got through it, but did you have to go through what you did. Couldn't it have been a more pleasurable experience. Didnt' you deserve that?
