Does music help you?

There is a song by Rahsaan Patterson called "The Best"

One line is

"I'm giving you best of me, the best, it's true, but I can't get the best from you,
So I guess goodbye is the best thing I can do"

I'm not one to dwell and wallow listening to sad love songs, but some did (and still do) help me.

There's a song to fit almost any type of feeling we have, and sometimes it just helps to pop some headphones in and enjoy the music or reflect or think about the future.

I've been staying away from music just because so many are connected to good or bad memories that trigger other emotions.. but I have really enjoyed Kesha's new song Praying. I don't usually like her type of music, but a friend recently sent it to me to listen to and the lyrics really hit with me. I'll give yours a listen!

"Well, you almost had me fooled
Told me that I was nothing without you
Oh, but after everything you've done
I can thank you for how strong I have become
'Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell
I had to learn how to fight for myself
And we both know all the truth I could tell
I'll just say this is "I wish you farewell"
I hope you're somewhere prayin', prayin'
I hope your soul is changin', changin'
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, prayin'
I'm proud of who I am
No more monsters, I can breathe again
And you said that I was done
Well, you were wrong and now the best is yet to come
'Cause I can make it on my own
And I don't need you, I found a strength I've never known
I'll bring thunder, I'll bring rain, oh
When I'm finished, they won't even know your name
You brought the flames and you put me through hell
I had to learn how to fight for myself
And we both know all the truth I could tell
I'll just say this is "I wish you farewell"
I hope you're somewhere prayin', prayin'
I hope your soul is changin', changin'
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, prayin'
Oh, sometimes, I pray for you at night
Someday, maybe you'll see the light
Oh, some say, in life, you're gonna get what you give
But some things only God can forgive
I hope you're somewhere prayin', prayin'
I hope your soul is changin', changin'
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, prayin'"

Pretty much anything by The National. You Were a Kindness has been running through my mind lately...

I was in a fog, I didn't notice everything everything
Was coming all apart inside of me
There wasn't anyway for anyone to settle in
You made a slow disaster out of me

There's a radiant darkness upon us
But I don't want you to worry
I was careful but nothing is harmless
Baby you better hurry

You were a kindness when I was a stranger
But I wouldn't ask for what I didn't need
Everything's weird and we're always in danger
Why would you shatter somebody like me

It doesn't work that way
Wanting not to want you won't make it so
It doesn't work that way
Don't leave me here alone

dellaND thats my jam!!! That Kesha song expressed my feelings and soothed my soul as well as made me feel powerful. Never underestimate the healing power of music and if you are in a horrible mood and want out and not think about the crappy situation of loving an alcoholic I would suggest
"In these shoes" by Kristi McCall It will get your toes tapping

Music carries me in life, always. There have been some great threads about this in the past so I don't want to repeat a bunch of stuff/songs I've mentioned before.

I will say that DD & I belt out Selena Gomez's "It Ain't Me" at the top of our lungs while we drive around town:

I had a dream
We were sipping whiskey neat
Highest floor, The Bowery
Nowhere's high enough
Somewhere along the lines
We stopped seeing eye to eye
You were staying out all night
And I had enough

No, I don't wanna know
Where you been or where you're goin'
But I know I won't be home
And you'll be on your own

Who's gonna walk you through the dark side of the morning?
Who's gonna rock you when the sun won't let you sleep?
Who's waking up to drive you home when you're drunk and all alone?
Who's gonna walk you through the dark side of the morning?

It ain't me, Noooo, noooooo (The Bowery, whiskey neat, grateful, I'm so grateful)
