Accidentally quit due to pneumonia.

Day 8 and I'm still coughing... but, I should probably just stop right?

Seems about time.

do you want to quit?

I know it's probably easier to quit when we feel ill but you will feel better soon. You must really want to quit by coming on here so 8 days is a brilliant start

Make a plan

Pneumonia is nothing to play with, I had it last year and it can get very serious. Wasn't long before I could not hardly breathe. When I finally got to the doctor he asked me what took so long?

If you need a reason, that's a good one.

Hope you feel better soon. Staying sober will only help

Yup. I was in a position where I was cutting back to avoid hangovers and put a plan together to quit safely, then I got sick due to seasonal changes etc. I have a plan binder, and don't really know how to use it well, but still do the work. I mainly write things down in my journal to remind myself of the negative repercussions of drinking. Currently, my plans are to dismantle the thoughts that take me to the store or bar so I can stay sober. The main thing is to care about myself; when that goes out the door, it starts again.

I think you may have it backwards, SS.

I quit, then everything I did was in support of that decision. I didn't make plans and lists and contingencies for "what if" I just didn't pick up a drink, no matter what thoughts or events I experienced.

Ya can't get ready to get ready forever. Just don't pick up that first drink and you're doing it right.

Also, Thanks for the best wishes. I'm feeling better and back up working and eating healthy. I was almost more productive with pneumonia than when I'm hungover! If that's not a sign, then I don't know what is...

I have some friends rooting for me. I can't wait to get out and be active again.

Make today your sober date day, sobersolstice - absolutely and positively, never to go back.

The most I,portent poece off any sober plan is to NOT pick up - EVER.

Hope that you cough goes away soon

I've been avoiding all cough syrup or nyquil with alcohol, and been getting the liquid caps and mucinex.

Day 11 and still coughing. Time to go to work. It's dark outside!

I always have honey with a squirt of lemon for coughs, but maybe you need antibiotics? Hope today goes well at work - was pitch black at 6am here, when I went out. I guess winter's coming in fast now

Stay strong

Yay. Day 15 and the thought of booze rarely enters my mind.

I'm feeling much better, but have a minor lingering cough. Thanks for the positive vibes..

The main thing for me is to eat enough before cravings kick in. This time I'm doing it the healthy way with very little sugar apart from coconut water and evening chocolate lol. A lot of veggies, grass fed beef and healthy food. Ice cold water. When I go out to bars or restaurants, Pellegrino w/ lime in a rocks glass. Sexy... no one blinks. If anything, they like seeing it.

Longest sobriety period for a while. I'm going to keep rolling with this and use my plan to avert drinking and build a solid foundation of health.
