I don't know what to do?
Hello everyone. I have not ever done anthing on the computer like this, so please bear with me. I don't know if I am in the right spot or not.
I was put on lortab back in april, and was recently switched to perocet. I feel like I am getting addicted to these drugs, and am phyically depentant on them. At first the lortab worked well for my pain, then as the months went on they were not as effective. I was up to taking the max per day(because of the tylenol) so a month ago I was switch perocet 10mg/ 325. Now I am taking between 6 and 8 of those a day. What does a person do if they need the meds, but does not want to be addicted. If anyone has any sugggestions I would be very greatful. Also I had a hard time figuring out were to come to post this add. Any shortcuts? And how do I find my replys? Thanks a bunch.
Will

Will,
First, once you have posted any replies will come to your email.
Now, for the real stuff.
If you think you are addicted, you probably are. You should discuss this with your doctor who perscribes the pills. He/she SHOULD help you detox and find alternatives to the addictive pain meds. Don't try to detox on your own. There are some unpleasant side effects and your doctor can help you avoid that.
you may want to try NA --but if you are in need of pain medication for a real problem, ask your doctor to refer you to a pain management specialist and be very upfront about what you shared here. You are not the first person and won't be the last to have this problem.
Keep posting here. I am sure you will find much support and caring.

Will-- I am on day 9 without pain pills. I was up to 20-30 per day and the detox was hell. Please do not waste any time getting off these pills, they are very addictive. If you think you have a problem, you probably do. Please talk to your Dr. right away.

Thank you all for your insight. I will speak to my doctor. My doctor is a pain specialist that is who I have been seeing since april. I am in need of some sort of pain relief, but from what I've read hear on this sight it sounds like I need to try something differnt. It sounds like the withdrawl of these meds are worse than the actual pain. Will my doctor cut me off of my meds if I tell her I think I am addicted? I want to be honest with her, but I am also affraid, because I know how I felt before I started taking anything. Well again thank you for your replys. Will
Will,
I don't think that you will be "cut off" cold turkey. Most withdrawals are handled with an adjunct of other meds as the addictive med is slowly cut back. Be honest with her. It is only way to safely get off the meds and if she pooh-pooh's it, find another doctor. I don't think you will have to worry about that, however. Most doctor's are caring and very aware of the addictive nature of pain meds.
