Alcoholism can and does cause insanity, for all involved
Insane:
In a state of mind that prevents normal perception, behavior, or social interaction
Yes, that would be me, my husband, our friends, our family through this chronic, progressive disease.
One of the symptoms of the disease is not wanting help. We slowly find we can't get anyone else to recover, but we can start waking up to how much pain it's causing and start asking for help for ourselves instead for others.
Sanity:
The quality or condition of being sane; soundness of mind.
Soundness of judgment or reason.
Dance on the glass ceiling. Make it crash. It doesn't hurt nearly as much as the illusions do... and all our own wounds start to heal when we tend to them with kindness and caring.

oh, yes it does.
I'm going through it right now with my AW, and a very close friend went through it with Alcoholic father.
His mother ended up being committed for a year because she decided to stay.
He had gone through hell and suddenly realized that the family was the only ones having a problem with his excessive drinking. He sure wasn't!
There is no escaping the insanity unless you escape the situation...

Embracing sanity. Taking new actions, again and again. Some feel good, some are uncomfortable because I'm still stepping out of my comfort zone... stepping away from familiar chaos.
Another Alanon meeting today, in another town while we're traveling. I'm glad meetings are so many places we go. I REALLY appreciate being able to have the face-to-face support.

Thinking of the music thread, yet drawn to posting this song here....
"One Foot" by Walk the Moon
Taking this one step at a time
Got your back if you got mine
One foot in front of the other
One foot in front of the other
One foot in front of the other

Yep - basically have been a mess for the last 3 years of my life. Well, the first 6 months together the demon was kept at bay. Even now with him gone it is affecting me, maybe even worse or just as bad because I am left to go back to a life before him that I have to get reacquainted with. A “new normal” if you will. In my 39 years of life I would say this was the most significant experience I’ve had. I don’t even remember what serenity looked like.
I pray for the sick ones and their families who are brought into the cycle of this sickness.
