That's a tough and I have no idea how to answer but will be interested in what others have to say. Will think about it and get back to you!

Humanity is that which we are denied by our addiction.

its pretty simple after lookin up the definition of humanity.
humanity:
compassion, brotherly love, fraternity, fellow feeling, philanthropy, humaneness, kindness, consideration, understanding, sympathy, tolerance; leniency, mercy, mercifulness, clemency, pity, tenderness; benevolence, charity, goodness, magnanimity, generosity;
the quality or state of being humane.

humane-having or showing compassion or benevolence.

a lot of that, if not all, is not there in many active alcoholics.
its some of the mental/emotional toll of active alcoholism

So would that mean after 55 days or 55 months off the booze I am becoming more humane as was my natural state pre - booze and the state of being humane was frozen during active alcoholism ? I don't agree .

most alcoholics dont know how to have or use the qualities that equal humane.
humility is the act of saying,"i dont know how to be those things" which leads to teachability which leads to learning how to be an active, productive member of humanity

I am not sure this is the right place for you.

We aren't here to answer essay type questions for someone.

Are you seeking support for addiction? If so, please tell us a bit more about your situation and what we can do to offer support.

I was asked these questions in a treatment type situations. The asker of the questions must think i need to figure those things out. Thanks for making me feel not welcome though.

I think the idea of these questions is for you to give your ideas, not simply repeat someone elses.

I suspect there are no wrong answers - but not thinking about what the questions mean to you must rather defeat the purpose of the exercise?

Now... Same question but for humility
You make us sound a little like Yahoo answers - and that's not what we do here, Tei.

We're much more than that - we're a community.

As Anna said you're very welcome here if you're seeking support for your addiction.

You won't find a better place for support

Well, the first step will be to get an understanding of what Humility is and isn't. THEN you can figure out how it relates to your drinking life and how important it might be for your recovery.

There were two things that I found useful in this.

1) Whoever it was that told me 'humility is not thinking less of ourself, it is thinking of ourself less.

2) This prayer.
God. I pray for your helping in detaching from the desire of being:
admired,
loved,
praised,
favoured,
accepted,
consulted,
well known,
and honoured.

I pray for your help in detaching from the fear of being:
Criticised,
ridiculed,
humiliated,
falsely accused,
persecuted,
disbelieved,
despised,
and forgotten.

Please grant me the grace to desire that others may be :
Admired more than I,
praised when I am unnoticed,
chosen though I may be set aside,
preferred to me,
and increase in prominence though I remain hidden.

Although others will do what they want, I pray that you will use me for your will.
I pray that I will pause, and while I pause help me to remember to pray for guidance and grant me the humility to find willingness and discard willfulness.

AMEN.

That prayer is especially useful for me in trying to figuer out my feelings of discomfort and fear rather than letting them flip straight into anger / defensiveness. When I find myself start getting a bit 'rattly' I look down that list and the things on there that make me balk / swear / cringe / rationalise (make excuses), etc. tend to be the ones I know I need to work on.

Are you in a rehab at the moment? If so, are you supposed to be using the internet?

BB

I apologize if I made you feel unwelcome. We are very protective of our members, specifically when someone is here for the sole purpose of research.

I think the main point here is that YOU were asked to figure out the answers to those questions. If you simply repeat what you've read here, it's not the same as working through the question in your own mind.

I do hope you continue to post here for support.

I am just looking for opinions on those concepts to understand what they mean and how understanding them can help in recovery
