Over and over

The actions, thoughts and words that become a permanent part of you are the ones you choose to repeat over and over again. Doing something once will certainly bring some kind of result, and doing it repeatedly will multiply its power many times over.

You cannot lift a thousand pounds all at once. Yet you can lift one pound a thousand times.

In the repetition of your thoughts and actions, there is great power. Choose to make complete and purposeful use of that power.

Add immense leverage to what you do by doing it again and again. Give great strength to your actions by persistently repeating them.

Nothing of value is ever accomplished in an instant. No skill is ever fully developed in a single day.

Take the time to make the effort over and over again. That time and those efforts will bring great rewards.

I read this today and realized how much it applied to how I think. If I think the same thoughts over and over and take the same actions over and over...it can lead me some place good...or dark...depending on what the thought and actions are.

If I think negative thoughts long enough, they will lead to negative actions and the more I do this, the more negative my life becomes...and I feel depressed and hopeless.

If I think positive thoughts and follow with positive actions, my life takes a positive turn for the better...and I feel good and confident of better days ahead.

The mind is a powerful tool in recovery and it took time for me to practice training it to stay positive no matter how bad things became. That and faith took me through some dark and stormy times and brought me to a place where life is worth living and I feel joy each day.

Something what helped me was to make a list of positive thoughts...and positive actions...and then follow where my mind led me.

For example, I love nature and the outdoors. Before my recovery I had become agoraphobic, leaving the house to even go to the corner store became difficult.

Postitive thought: I can and will find a way to get outdoors every day and walk and feel the sunshine...time limit is optional (allowing me an escape if I was overwhelmed).

Positive deed: I bought a digital camera, not an expensive one but one with fairly good zoom and I walked in nature and took pictures of birds and foxes and rabbits and deer and anything wonderful that I saw along my path.

I took a fun photography course where we did field trips and went out to shoot light houses and waterfalls and autumn hills...with a professional giving us tips and suggestions on how to make the best of a shot and various lighting. I met people who had a common interest...and that helped me overcome my need to hide in my home.

Soon I couldn't wait to get out into nature and today, many years later, nature photography has become my passion, my outlet that brings me peace each time I do it.

That's just one example, but you can make your own.

You can train your mind to think positive thoughts and then let that lead you to a positive life.
