Day 14 sober tempted to drink today

Day 14 sober really proud of myself, started thinking about drinking . Wanted to buy some beer and hang out with friends. But I did something I learned here. I played the tape though. I thought about what happens next after I leave my friends house. Surely I would be driving impaired stopping off at the liquor store to get a bottle. Then I would smuggle the bottle in the house, past my wife who is so proud of my sobriety so far. Then I would hold up in my work shop until the bottle was gone then passing out in the chair. After viewing the tape I decided a different course, I went to the gym came home sober and took my wife and dog for a walk in the park. Came home my wife cooked me dinner and we watched a movie together. I'm so glad I thought things thru . This is whats different about quitting this time around. Thanks everyone and this forum for your help.

That's great news, Joe. Playing the tape forward is in my tool box too!
Congratulations on day 14!

Day 14 is really great. Well done!
I have found playing the tape forward really helps. The more I have got through periods of craving, the shorter the episodes seem to last when they next come.
Best wishes in your recovery.

Great job! You are hanging on to what matters...wife and self-respect and letting go of the worthless...drink.

I have "played the tape" many times and it has help tremendously. I even go so far as to get into the details so that I can fully experience just how bad I will feel if I picked up that first drink.(sounds silly but it helps). I am so glad I chose not to drink. Glad you did, too!

Playing the tape has saved me so many times! Keep playing it - it works! Congrats on 14 days.
