Hi all

Hi all new poster here

I am now on 36 hours of no alcohol after reducing my consumption slowly and steadily.

I was just wandering is if any of you guys had the shakes so bad you could not even lift food to your mouth with a fork?

many thanks!

Yes. I remember "the shakes" and trying desperately to hide them. It lasted for about 3 days. Never want to have those again.

I hope you are over the worst of it soon. I felt that I was shaking all over at one point. It went away quickly....the racing heart, shortness of breath and nightmares were terrible. I honestly thought I was going to die.
Well done on getting this far.
Best wishes.

If you have the shakes after quitting drinking you need to go to the doctor and tell them you are in withdrawal from alcohol. People quite frequently die or have strokes during alcohol withdrawal if they are not medically supervised. Please get medical help now.

Good luck!

In the US, detox clinics have told me that physical withdrawal from alcohol generally lasts about three days. You're more than halfway there...and the best news is, you never have to go through this again! Wish you lots of strength and hope...

My God, your doctor told yourself to ''ween off?" instead of giving you benzos? I have no words.

Hang in there, it will pass, you are healing. It seems like an eternity but after a week tops without a drink, you should be fine.

I had the shakes too, sometimes for up to 5 days. Speaking of which, I'm on my 5th day now and still have very minor shakes but it's dying out. Peaks for me were between the 24 hour and 72 hour marks. I couldn't even feel my feet on solid ground, I felt like I was walking in another dimension.

It's tough, exercise helps, just walking outdoors does some good. Try to eat light too and get your vitamins. I feel your pain - the struggle is real.

Be sure to check with your dr or go to an ER if you have concerns. Withdrawing from alcohol can be dangerous. Stay safe.

The shakes will pass but completely agree with Anna if it gets too much seek additional help

In the next few days, see a Dr & get some B vitimins in you to help you recover

Nice to meet you.. know you can do this & don't have to do it alone
