Introduction- Glad to be here

Greetings-
It's a pleasure to meet you all. I am a 43 year old male whose story is similar to many of you here. In brief, though the extent of drinking has waxed and waned since college, the binges have progressed in length and volume (this year started waking up with a beer, etc).

Last week, after stopping 2 weeks of heavy drinking I experienced my first real withdrawal symptoms (shaking, near panic attacks, night sweats). The escalation was real, and it was beginning to affect family and work.

I had my last beer (after taper) on 8/31. I stayed sober for a wedding in New Orleans this weekend, and am now making a recovery plan.

I'm looking forward to participating in the forums.
Best--

Welcome to SR Badlands. I had almost an identical experience to you, quit about the same age and also experienced bad withdrawals for the first time my last "quit" attempt. I actually ended up in the ER, fortunately no permanent damage but quite scary. Congrats on your week sober and making it through the weekend, hope you can stick around and join us for some conversation.

Hi, badlands. Are you badlands as in the Springsteen song or badlands as in the South Dakota place?

Thank you for the warm welcome! It feels wonderful to wake up hangover free.

Part of my recovery plan is to take several minutes each morning to acknowledge this feeling and contrast it to waking up sick/tired etc.

('badlands' as in the film.... i guess that would be SD?)

That is so true, and sounds like a great idea to compare waking up sober to the alternative. Just this morning I was noticing how nice it was to get a semi-decent night's sleep.

Welcome to the family. You've made a good choice to get sober. My worst day sober is far better than my best day drunk.

I hope with our help, you can get sober for good and enjoy a whole new life.
