The Ignore Function
The Ignore Function
SR is a big place - and it gets bigger everyday.
There's always the chance that you'll find a post or a poster you don't particularly like or agree with.
If you find a post you think breaks our rules
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ting-tips.html
you can report the post by clicking the report post icon on the offending post.
If it's a particular poster bugging you, you can use the ignore function.
Ignore bothersome members. If there is someone on the forum that bothers you, select the Ignore option on the drop down menu under their name on the post. You won't see any posts from this member again.
I've heard people say they think the ignore function is cheating - or it doesn't address the problem with the other poster.
It's not cheating - its a feature built into the software to help this website work as effectively as possible, and help our members focus on recovery rather than resentments.
It may not solve the problem as you see it, but it will solve it for you.
Other people can look after themselves.
I know it's tempting to report the post, or use the ignore function, and then fire off a round or two in a post as well...
but we ask people don't do that.
It defeats the purpose of the features.

I'm leaving this thread open but this is not a thread to air grievances with particular members or frustrations with rules.
General discussion (if there is any) only thanks.

Dee - The "ignore" button does not really do a whole lot of good, if we want to not keep seeing a particular person and their threads. Like you said if someone "quotes" on that thread then this person just keeps popping up again and again. Especially if they constantly post stuff over and over which one does not want to see for certain reasons. Is there no way that this software can be tweaked so that it essentially "blocks" a person when you want to ignore. Just a question.
The Ignore function does what it does and we have to manage with that.
If someone you have on Ignore is quoted in another's post, just do your best to avoid reading the post.
Thank you Dee for taking the time to put this important reminder here for us.

Any software that would do what you want to do (and you're not the only person to ever ask for this) would very likely cost money - and the great thing about SR is its a free site.
There's a certain personal responsibility too as I see it.
If someone really grinds your gears there's really no point in reading their posts...you could stop at the thread title or at the user name in a quote - but in a place like this, outrage or drama can be addictive as much as any substance.
I'm not suggesting that observation applies to you heavencanwait - I hardly know you - but it has applied to me in the past more than once.
I've been here 10 years and I've gotten stuck on specific posters a time or two.
Nowadays, I try to keep my focus on recovery.
I think thats a good way to be
