I spent too many yrs worrying about others opinions
NOW I would scream from the rooftops that I am an alcoholic, at the end of the day let them judge and talk away if they want, its me fighting for my life, for my childrens future, for my family, they are number one NOT all these people on the outside, what they think of me is none of my business, I understand that some dont want people to know and I get it, but now for me I dont give a rats behind, pardon the expression, no one should have to hide a problem NEVER

My AA sponsor had a good analogy. Imagine you have a hoola-hoop around you, everything inside it is your problem, everything outside it (including people's opinions) has nothing to do with you. I, myself, try not worry about others opinions of me but try not to give opinions on much else (including opinions of other people) outside of my own behaviour because it doesn't help me

i used to have a serious problem with what others' thought of me- to the point that when i went to the store, i would look at the ground. i was certain people were lookin at me and thinkin,'theres that f-up."
when brought up to my sponsor, he suggested i got to walmart, sit down somewhere and people watch. do it for at least 10 minutes.
so i did. sat at the end of an isle in the shoe dept.
sat there watchin everyone walkin by and shopping.
then went to my sponsors.
he asked,"howd it go?"
"i was able to do it and not puke."
'how many people did you see?"
" probably 50-75."
"and how many did you make eye contact with?"
" i think about 5?"
"thats how important you are to other people."
HUH!!
