First Therapy Session
This morning was my first appointment with a therapist who specializes in alcohol addiction. She has 30 years sober and has been a therapist for 25 years.
She told me her story of alcohol addiction and recovery. I connected with her and feel comfortable talking to her. It is still very stressful and hard to open up. I'm going to be seeing her on a weekly basis.
This is a huge step and I'm really looking forward to discovering myself. It's time for me to learn to live and love myself. One baby step at a time.

Sind,
I talk at my sporadic AA meetings. While I have yet to commit fully to AA, I use many of the principles of the 12 steps in my sobriety maintenance.
Talking w other addicts is awesome. It is nearly impossible to talk about addiction w anyone that has not been addicted or is currently addicted and not trying to recovery.
Thanks.

I agree with Anna, Sinderos! Seeing the therapist took courage. Good for you following through.
I think, given time, you'll feel more comfortable opening up. I was very nervous the first time. It got easier each session. I'm so happy you're doing this for yourself.
Please keep us updated.

Sinderos- not baby steps- STEPS! Some days I plan to conquer the world with productive, life changing events- and it is also sometimes just enough to get to a meeting, shower- eat properly. Some days I plan 10,000 steps, only get 3000 up- and even then because of pain/fatigue/emotional turmoil blah.
Seeing a counsellor weekly is a hue MILESTONE. A marker in your, in our recoveries. It requires commitment, tasking -time/resources/humans..
My premise is they are my professional friends. What happens in counselling club, stays in...
I try to be as blatantly honest as I can. From not wanting to mention that childish anger I feel at that human for that pointless reason that effected my thinking and took huge effort to over come...whatever.
WELL DONE! (fireworks, cake).

That is great news Sinderos, very glad to hear you went. As others said, it's a big step and I hope you are able to continue. My counselor is also a recovering alcoholic and while not an addiction specialist, our conversations are very helpful. I hope you find the same.
Just knowing that you, we, us never have
to go thru anything or figure out anything
in life alone or by ourselves ever again is
absolutely comforting. It takes the weight
off our shoulders so we can calm down
and support each other on our journey
in life and recovery together. Side by side.
I'm so happy to hear that you have
taken that huge step towards regaining
your life back and grow towards becoming
healthy and happy in all areas of your life.
Way To Go....!!!!!
