Anxiety

Good morning.

Well, my dizziness from the neck strain headaches is getting better, but I still am experiencing a lot of anxiety.

Aside from medication (and drinking of course which is now NOT an option) how do you guys deal with anxiety?

What have you found works best for you?

Thanks.

Demolition. (Using a wrecking bar to take things apart.)

Highly therapeutic.

Because somewhere, something needs to be in smaller pieces.

Wow, fast reply Non!
And I'm glad to have read it. I needed a good chuckle this morning.

But in a figurative way, I see what you're saying also.
Thanks!

Walking almost always clears my head and makes me feel better.

If that's not possible, it's music.

I find a "change of pace" clears my head of Anxiety ...
Like Anna suggested.. A short walk or music.

Also, I have Netflix and watch a show or movie.
I love Movies that can "take me away" for a couple hours.

PhoenixJ--

Mindful crap? LOL
I think I know what you mean...but I especially like your terminology.

At the moment I think that part of my problem is that I have a mind full of crap! And its whirling around like a dervish.

I used to use the "firehose" analogy to the thoughts in my head due to anxiety, but whirling dervish works too.

For me the first real step in getting better was accepting that anxiety is a separate and distinct issue I had to deal with appropriately. For the better part of a couple of years after I quit I was simply "waiting" for my anxiety to improve because I quit drinking, but it did not.

I've used the following tools in the last few years and they have helped a lot
1. Counseling
2. Mindfulness/Meditation
3. Exercise- not vigorous but any activity, even walking - just on a regular basis
4. Reducing sugar/caffeine intake.
5. I even tried an anti anxiety med, which I said I would NEVER do. It did help me get over the hump so to speak so don't completely rule it out.
