Unhappy Day 2.

On day 2 after going overboard Friday and Saturday night. I am ashamed. I am sweaty and my anxiety is brutal. Worries of DT's and withdrawal which I know is ridiculous given my age and that I binge once a week generally. I want more than anything to feel like I did when I had 6 months sober prior to February this year.

Going to give AA meetings another shot. It was hard for me the first few times as I am not very religious and felt out of place. That said, I will go to it with an open mind.

Good job on day 2, stick it out, you know it gets better. If the AA meeting you went to was overly religious you can always try another. The meeting I attended only had the group serenity prayer at the end. Otherwise, people spoke of God helping them if they felt that was what was helping them, others spoke of other things that helped them. If their God is helping them, who am I to judge? We live in a colourful world with people who believe in all kinds of things, listening to someone speak of their God does not have to be offensive, it is just what is working for them and where they find comfort. If things get "pushy" you can always leave or try another meeting.

Stay the course, you can do this.

I use AA as a tool to learn, grow, share and support. The 'god' part, I just respect as others see the world. AA is people helping people. A connection with others who have experiences I can relate to- as they can with mine.

Welcome back..I lost 7mo(the longest in my adult life) sobriety about a month ago with a 'one night party'..Luckily I did keep it to the one night. I'm also not very religious and was court ordered to AA..It did help me to go listen to other's stories, share if I felt like it,ect.. I only attended 'open meetings' but, left 95% of the time with a good experience.

I'm glad you're giving AA another shot Ekohe - if you're the kind of drinker I was, something needs to change - good for you for taking action

So far so good. Had a very busy day working and landed more contracts.

The weekend will be my real test. Thanks for all the replies!

Made it through the weekend. On day 8 and feeling great!

One of my "drinking buddies" got a dui over the weekend, and as a ripple lost his job as he can no longer drive there. I never want to see myself get to that point, I am hoping this helps him to smarten up, because its reinforced all the reasons I have had for steering clear of the poison.

Busy week ahead.

Was doing well for two weeks. Don't know what came over me, but I fell off.

I'm now willing to do anything to remain sober, am seeing an addiction counselor later this week. On day two after a two day binge, about 8-12 beers friday, and the same saturday. Am terrified of withdrawals but have been told I have nothing to worry about because of my history and age. Can't calm myself down.

welcome back Ekohe

Its great you're seeing a counsellor but I reckon there's a lot more you can do to stay sober than that.

I'd consider all the meeting based alternatives (AA SMART, LifeRing etc) as well as posting more here - maybe even join the Class of July support thread?

Success at this point really depends so much on effort - don't skimp on it

I worked really hard last august, and made it 6 months, so I know I have it in me to do it again. You're very right, I will give meetings a serious chance, which I haven't in the past.

I know you can do it again - just as you can make the leap from period of sobriety to a permanent state of recovery
