Newcomer again.
Wanted to say "Hi, all." Fell off after three years and stuck in the "can't get past the 48 hour mark" because of the shakes and general terrible feelings associated with getting off of it.
Trying to do the right things, but...catch 22.

Welcome back. Some don't make it.
Three years is great and you'll always have it.
For me, it was the four day mark. Man, did I struggle with that. For years.
Sending good vibes your way. And wishing you the best and new sobriety.
Don't be too had on yourself, if it were easy there would be no alcoholics. You're not alone.

I have benzo help but don't seem to absorb it very well. Then there is the whole "oh things that are real stay real" problem. I have to get to some meetings but the shakes...the shakes.
I feel like I am in the wrong room now. Admin?

I thought I posted to you before but maybe it didnt take?
The Newcomers forum is a good place to start IMO - busy forum, chance of lots of responses.
Its not meant as any reflection on how much sober time you have, had, or might have
If you want to move to Alcoholism forum though, you can PM me 'Anna' or 'ScottFromWI' after 5 posts
If withdrawal is so debilitating you feel you need to drink, have you considered seeing a Dr for help through withdrawal?

I would also suggest seeing your doctor to get help in getting past the first few days. The withdrawal anxiety used to send me back to the bottle to 'calm down', which only delayed my progress in getting sober for good. But I asked for help, and got it, and am now sober over 7 yrs and happier than I've ever been. It is possible.
and a blessing to see them comin back and eventually be able to hold a full cup of coffee.
"Then there is the whole "oh things that are real stay real" problem."
thats simple to solve- dont believe the lie.
I'm so glad you came back. I had 3 yrs once & tried to have 'a glass' of wine. It led to drinking for another 7 yrs. & almost total destruction. Being here, with friends who understood, made all the difference to me. You can get your life back.
